2023-2027: Present and Future of Enterprise Applications and Low-Code

We asked Roberto Acerbis, CEO of WebRatio, for his perspective on the closing year and what we can expect in the coming years.

Roberto, how would you describe 2023, and what should we anticipate in the years ahead?

2023 has confirmed a consistent increase in interest in Low-Code platforms, with a global market growth of 20%[1]. The economic instability of this period did not hinder the rise in software investments in recent years. On the contrary, companies found digitalization to be a valuable ally for improving performance, reducing costs, and fostering business growth.

According to Gartner[2], the global enterprise applications market will grow by 13% annually until 2027.

We are fully experiencing the transition from the Mid-Digital era to the Post-Digital[3] era, where digital will be omnipresent, providing seamless user experiences that we still encounter daily.

Let's also remember that 2023 marked the rise of Artificial Intelligence, which will be increasingly utilized in the coming years, including within Low-Code platforms, such as virtual assistants supporting development, as we already see examples in the market.

These predictions confirm the trends in the software industry for 2024, which show an increased interest in technologies like Intelligent Applications, Platform Engineering, and AI-Augmented Development[4].

How does WebRatio position itself and its Low-Code technology in this context?

From an organizational perspective, 2023 was a historic year for WebRatio as it joined the RES group. Being part of a larger group offers new forms of collaboration, synergies, and a broader and more structured presence in the Low-Code market.

From a technological standpoint, we know that Low-Code platforms make development more agile[5]. WebRatio Platform aligns with this goal, and we have been developing it with a developer-centric[6] approach to address the priorities of development teams creating enterprise applications. These teams face the daily challenge of continuous digital transformation, aiming not only to react to change but to anticipate customer needs and lead their companies to market leadership with innovative digital systems.

Our team is already working on enhancing features and integrations that improve the development experience, Agile practices usage, DevOps, and process automation.

All these are fundamental components to enhance development efficiency, allowing developers to focus on less repetitive and low-value tasks, primarily concentrating on strategic and innovative activities, thereby increasing the quality of work across all business units.

In the coming years, integration with AI systems suitable for supporting developers' activities will further simplify WebRatio's Low-Code, ensuring the continuous improvement in the development performance that our clients already know.
